Rolling Stone Country - Zac Brown Band Reveals 2016 Southern Ground Festival Lineup
Early in 2015, Zac Brown Band surprised fans with the release of a new single called "Homegrown." But to anyone who has attended the group's Southern Ground Music & Food Festival, it's no surprise that the popular event will return to Charleston, South Carolina, next spring.
The two-day event takes place April 16th and 17th and will feature headlining performances from blues rockers Tedeschi Trucks Band and young country superstar Thomas Rhett. Joining them for the concerts at Charleston's MUSC Health Stadium will be Kacey Musgraves, Hunter Hayes, Michael Franti & Spearhead and Marshall Tucker Band. The festival will also include appearances from members of Zac Brown Band, with Coy Bowles & the Fellowship, Clay Cook and John Driskell Hopkins all taking the stage to perform. Other acts confirmed to appear include Sam Bush, Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers, A Thousand Horses, Old Dominion, Cam, Packway Handle Band, Muddy Magnolias and Drake White and the Big Fire.
The annual tradition will continue as Zac Brown Band will close each night with "Super Sets," special sit-in appearances from other acts on the bill. In the past, the "sit-in" performances have featured the likes of Kenny Chesney, John Fogerty, Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Kenny Rogers.
Pre-sale tickets for Zac Brown Band fan-club members will be available beginning Tuesday, December 15th, at 12 p.m. ET. General ticket sale kicks off a week from today, on Friday, December 18th, at 10 a.m. ET, at the official Southern Ground Festival website.
"Homegrown" was the lead single from JEKYLL + HYDE, the group's rule-breaking LP that immediately hit Number One on the country chart and the Billboard 200 when it was released in April. "What I've always loved is to try things and take chances that other people are scared to do," Brown told Rolling Stone Country in January. "We've got a team of visionary people and people who've proven they can be successful in their own way, by breaking the rules of what is normal." Brown took another unexpected step this week when he sang "The Way You Look Tonight" on a CBS special honoring Frank Sinatra's 100th birthday, which will be commemorated on Saturday, December 12th.
